School aluminium beverage can recycling program

Purpose

This activity is designed to generate some active participation of students in an environmental program.

Activity

Students could be encouraged to develop stimulus material to advertise the aluminium beverage can recycling program in the school:

• design posters to encourage people to recycle their aluminium beverage cans
• design a character to represent your recycling program (this could be a local animal emblem, a cartoon character, or an inanimate object)
• write articles for the school magazine or newsletter about aluminium beverage cans and recycling, or publish your own recycling newspaper. Other activities here could be used to generate information and ideas for articles, artwork etc.
• design recycling bins
• design a can thermometer
• write and perform a short play on recycling.

Locating recycling bins. Get students to work out the best locations around the school for recycling bins. This could be done using a brainstorm session, a survey of other students, a survey of the litter hot-spots around the school.
